Amanda is a first-grade teacher, wife, and proud bonus mom to two incredible teenagers.
Her journey with cancer began unexpectedly at just eight years old, after a simple sprained ankle during P.E. led to an after-hours X-ray appointment on Father’s Day. What doctors discovered was not a sprain, but a tumor in her right ankle. She was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma. Rather than accept amputation as the only option, her surgeon designed and performed the first-ever moving ankle reconstruction, an innovative procedure that has since paved the way for other successful limb-sparing surgeries.
That experience shaped the way Amanda approaches life. She has never allowed limits to define her. As a teenager, she rode horses even after being advised not to. She has taken trapeze classes, continually tested the strength and endurance of her reconstructed leg, and now steps onto a stage to dance in front of crowds, something she describes as the most rewarding challenge yet. Each new physical milestone is both a celebration of medical innovation and a personal declaration of resilience.
Professionally, Amanda pours that same determination into her classroom. She is deeply passionate about teaching and believes in cultivating courage, curiosity, and grit in her students. At home, she shares life with her family, a collection of beloved black cats, and a white German Shepherd. Whether in the classroom, on a stage, or pushing herself beyond what once seemed possible, Amanda embodies strength in motion, proof that survival can evolve into purpose, and purpose into joy.
