Aprill Baker was born April Fool’s Day. She is the current Nurse Manager at the Scully Welsh Cancer Center in Vero Beach, Florida.
She was raised in New York and attended nursing school in High School. She moved to Washington DC in 1980 and worked at Sibley Memorial Hospital for two years.
Aprill moved to Florida in 1982 and began working at what is now called Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. She received her Registered Nursing degree in 1988 by attending South Florida Community College in Avon Park, Florida, and continued her education at Indian River State College, receiving her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 2013.
She has national certifications in Oncology Nursing and Ambulatory Nursing and holds the title OCN (Oncology nurse Certification) and AMB-BC (ambulatory Nursing Certification). Aprill has attended the National Conferences for the Oncology Nursing Society and has presented two Poster Presentations in oncology nursing.
She has a beautiful son who resides in Vero Beach, and a wonderful husband of 5 years.
Aprill was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 while working with the best oncologist in Indian River County, Dr. Michaela Scott MD. She was lucky and caught the breast cancer in an early stage, but because of her previous lumpectomies and strong family history of breast cancer, she chose to have a double mastectomy and be rid of the breast tissue.
Aprill joined the Cancer Dancers this summer and is so happy to be part of this wonderful group of courageous women.
